The best healers are still healing themselves!

Healing is a bit like an onion...each layer you discover something new about yourself and another aspect to heal. Once you think you've finished - up pops another layer!

I'm Reiki trained and it was learning Reiki twenty years ago that first started my journey into helping to heal myself and others.

I was first brought to the wonderful world of acupuncture when I encountered extreme stress at work.  Acupuncture got me sleeping again, relaxing again and cleared the brain fog so I could see clearly as to what changes I had to make in my life.  Years later, I decided to leave my veterinary job and become a full-time acupuncturist and Reiki energy healer; I have not regretted any minute of it.  It truly is a privilege to help and witness the profound transformations my patients undergo.

I am also the only Stems and Branches trained acupuncturist in Yorkshire*.  Stems and Branches acupuncture is extremely sophisticated, ancient and gentle, with only a very few number of points/needles used.  The body knows what it needs to do - it does not need gazillions of needles to help it reset and heal.

I spent three years studying full time at the International College of Oriental Medicine I am licensed by Barnsley Council and a member of the Association of Acupuncture Clinicians.

Stems and Branches, Five Element, Master Tung and Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) Acupuncture and Acupressure

Literally speaking acupuncture is the insertion of solid needles into the body, but it is obviously much, much more than this definition implies. At first glance there are a confusing array of different types of acupuncture that people may talk about.

Firstly, the form of acupuncture that doctors, nurses, physiotherapists, chiropractors and osteopaths may offer is most usually NOT classical East Asian acupuncture (e.g. TCM/Five Element/Stems and Branches/ Master Tung).  It is "medical acupuncture" and the training required much. much less. Often only several days! The general approach is to needle muscle "trigger points" i.e. where it hurts and add in a couple of token, East Asian medicine acupuncture points.  It is most usually used to treat musculoskeletal conditions.

Whereas East Asian acupuncture has developed over thousands of years and is split into many different sub-types, which include Stems and Branches and Five Element acupuncture.  However all require lengthy training initially, and a deep understanding not only of the location of the points, but more importantly an ability to fully assess a patient at a deep energetic level.  To do this I will take a patient's pulse on both wrists and look at the tongue, as well as incorporating other subtle information gleaned from the overall demeanour of the patient and what the patient is also describing. Oh and yes I do also needle "trigger" points and where pain may be felt, but most of the time only one or two needles placed away from the area of concern is enough to bring about healing.

Stems and Branches acupuncture is also very sophisticated at not only tackling any physical pain, but also emotional and mental.  It is simply a whole mind and body form of healing.

During a treatment a patient will have a lovely, comfy lie down on my treatment couch and the needles are in place for around half an hour.  Much less time if the patient is very young or the patient's energy shifts more quickly than expected.  Any patients that are unable to lie down can sit, stand or even walk around the clinic! I only ever needle where a patient is comfortable at exposing that particular area of body.

Most of the points I use (even for back pain) are on the lower legs and arms.  It is therefore really helpful if a patient can come wearing loose fitting clothing, especially wide legged trousers.  Please don't buy any clothes especially for the appointment...I can work around most wardrobes!
